2000s White Sox player rewind: Brent Morel

Who I legitimately thought could become a Gold Glover at the Major League Level.

He obviously made a lasting impact on White Sox fans and Major League baseball considering this video has 302 views on the MLB’s official YouTube page.

Watching Morel for the 4 years he played for the White Sox, it was quite apparent why he is extremely forgettable. His most notable career highlight from my memory (and the White Sox video board today) was a game-winning single in the 12th inning to give the White Sox a 9-7 victory over the Dodgers, maybe the Dodgers? I can’t find the video anywhere online so as far as I’m concerned, this is a myth.

In 2011, Morel recorded the only multi-home run game of his entire career and that pretty much rounds out his career accolades. After leaving the White Sox in 2013, he bounced around for a few years, being picked up by the Blue Jays and never playing a game, Played for the Pirates Triple-A affiliate, and then ended his stint in Major League baseball playing for Oakland’s Triple-A affiliate. A really sad career for a guy who had so much promise and ended up finishing up his playing days for the Orix Buffaloes of the Nippon Professional Baseball league in Japan. His numbers were just as shitty there.

For someone who garnered headlines such as these:

He obviously failed to live up to expectations. Headlines such as these make me feel better about my younger self drinking the Kool-Aid about any White Sox prospect who had the slightest bit of potential. At least it just wasn’t myself and Hawk ready to run through a brick wall for this guy.

He ended up hitting .227 with 13 long balls and 52 RBIs during the entirety of his Major League career. It obviously didn’t work out for this guy like he would have hoped but he made it to The Show and that’s something I’m only able to do playing a video game, so kudos.

Currently, Brent’s surprisingly verified on Twitter and has a following 6,218 strong. He rarely tweets, but when he decides to fire up the Twitter machine, boy oh boy, we get some heaters

Well, that’s no fun, Brent. Makes sense why you sucked now
